Picked the 12 step sign up wizard over the 3 field form and watched 4 people give up
So last month I had to build a sign up flow for a small community tool at work. My boss wanted the long one because it had a progress bar and looked "official." The other choice was a plain 3 field form anyone could finish in under 30 seconds. I went with the 12 step one. Big mistake lmao. We tested it with 8 coworkers and 4 of them bailed by step 5. One guy just closed the tab when it asked for his job title. The progress bar somehow made it feel longer. We went back to the 3 field form last week and sign ups jumped from 12 to 41 in two days. Now I have to explain to my boss why the fancy wizard lost. Has anyone else had a boss push a longer flow just because it looks more legit? How did you make the case for the short one without stepping on toes?
