My friend called me crazy for hating the 'pull to refresh' animation on my weather app

We were grabbing coffee in Chicago last Tuesday and I showed him how the little sun spins for a full 3 seconds before updating. He said 'It's cute, you're overthinking it.' I think any animation that makes you WAIT without a clear reason is bad design. What's a weather app you use that just shows the info fast?

Double down on that 3 second spin thing. It's like the app is trying to convince you it's doing something important when really it's just buffering. I switched to a barebones weather widget that refreshes silently in the background. No animations, no cute loading icons, just updated temps when I open the phone. My friend saw it and said it looked "sterile" but honestly I prefer data over dancing graphics.
