I thought tooltips on mobile were a lost cause, till a barista in Denver showed me her screen
I used to roll my eyes at anyone who said mobile tooltips could work. Hover doesn't exist on a phone, so tapping a little question mark icon just felt like a bait and switch. Then last month I was at a coffee place in Denver, and the barista was showing me the ordering app she uses for her side gig. I pointed at a grayed out button and asked why it was dead. She tapped it, and instead of a tooltip, a thin card slid up from the bottom of the screen with one plain sentence and a tiny X. No wall of text, no popup box trying to fit a paragraph in a 40px bubble. I just sat there for a second. The whole thing was so calm I didn't even realize it was the same info I'd been cramming into hover cards on desktop for a client. Is a bottom sheet the actual answer here, or am I about to break something else by copying it?
