I spent a month blaming the app for being slow before realizing I had 'reduce motion' turned off on my phone.
The app's splash screen had a 3-second animated logo that only played smoothly with the setting on, so I was just staring at a frozen image every single launch.

Yeah, that "reduce motion" thing gets me too. I had my phone set to dark mode for years, but some app updates would show blinding white screens for a split second before switching. Drove me nuts until I found the "automatic" schedule setting buried in the menu. Felt like a detective solving a tiny, annoying mystery.

My old laptop had the same exact problem.

I mean, I get what you're saying, but a laptop screen flickering feels like a different kind of annoying to me. That's usually a hardware or driver thing, not a setting you can just toggle on and off. The phone thing is more about software not playing nice with your choices. Idk, maybe it's just me but they don't feel like the same problem at all.
