Comparing bank apps side by side showed me how much clutter I put up with

I logged into my credit union's app yesterday and the homepage had 14 different buttons. Then I tried a simple digital bank my cousin uses and it had only 4 options. Why do some apps assume we want every feature visible at once when most of us just need balance and transfers?

Oh man that reminds me, my mom got a new phone last week and she was so mad that her banking app put the "apply for credit card" button right next to the "check balance" button. She kept tapping the wrong one and almost applied for a card by accident. I think these designers need to spend a day in a regular person's shoes before they add all that extra stuff.

...and that's exactly why I switched to a credit union app that lets me hide buttons I don't use. I don't need a mortgage calculator or a car loan estimator every time I check my balance. Most people just want to see their money and maybe send a payment. It's like these banks think they're designing a video game dashboard instead of a wallet.
