The carwash logo near my house has a dolphin that looks like a potato
I drive past this place every day and I swear the dolphin in their sign has no fins and just kind of looks like a lumpy vegetable. It's supposed to be a carwash with a dolphin theme but I don't think anyone on their design team has ever seen a real dolphin. Has anyone else had to deal with a logo that just completely misses what the business actually does?

Oh man, I actually read something about this in a design blog a few months back. They said a shocking number of logos out there are just slightly modified stock images or templates from sites like Fiverr where the designer clearly didn't put in any real effort. One example they showed was a pizza joint that had a slice of pizza with pepperoni that was clearly just a bunch of red circles pasted on with no thought to how they'd look at scale. So your lumpy potato dolphin doesn't surprise me at all. It's like the designer just searched "dolphin" in a free clip art library and picked the first thing that somewhat resembled a mammal. Did you ever look up the business online to see if they have any reviews that mention the wonky logo?

I read a article last week about how a lot of businesses just grab cheap logos from those online template sites and call it a day. That dolphin lump sounds like it came straight out of 2008 clip art hell. My friend actually works in graphic design and she says most small business owners don't even look at the final files they just click approve lol. Its almost impressive how a carwash can have a dolphin that looks more like a forgotten baked potato than a sea creature.

Oh totally, I’ve seen that kind of thing way too much. There’s this laundromat near my place that has a logo that’s just a generic clip art washing machine with a smiley face, and it literally looks like something from an old PowerPoint template. And @finleybutler is right, the worst part is when the owner just clicks approve without even zooming in to check if the thing is a dolphin or a potato.
