Showerthought: I judged a taco truck sign at 10pm in Austin and then looked at my own work
I was walking back to my hotel on East 6th in Austin last month and stopped to laugh at this taco truck sign, it had three fonts stacked on top of each other and a clip art chili pepper that was squished all weird. I snapped a pic for this community and everything, felt real smug about it. Then I got back to my room and pulled up the logo I made for my own side thing, and it had the same problem, a serif name crammed next to a script tagline with zero space between them. I spent about 90 minutes that night stripping it down to one font and one color, and it instantly looked like it belonged on the truck instead of in a yard sale bin. So what is the tell for you all that a mark is overworked, is it the font count or the spacing that tips you off first?
