Saw a landscaping company logo that still haunts me

Was at a hardware store in Austin last month and saw a truck with a logo that had a lawnmower blade shaped like a sickle and a font that looked like comic sans. The owner told me his nephew made it for free and he didn't want to hurt his feelings. Has anyone here had to tell a friend or family member their design just doesn't work?

Got a friend who owns a small sign shop here in San Antonio. Last year his sister asked him to design a logo for her dog grooming business. She wanted a poodle silhouette with a blow dryer that looked like a rocket ship and rainbow gradients everywhere. He spent like three days tweaking it to make it look halfway decent but she kept asking for more sparkles and stars. Finally he just printed what she wanted and slapped it on her van. He told me he cringes every time he sees it parked outside her house but she loves it so whatever. Its tough when family gets involved because you cant just be straight with them without it turning into a whole thing.

Cringe every time I see my cousin's logo on his food truck 😂. Sometimes free design costs more than paid design.
