Hit 50 client revisions on a single logo project and I still can't tell if I'm the problem or the client is

I just wrapped up a logo for a local coffee shop in Portland and the final file was version 50 after they kept tweaking the shade of green on the leaf icon. The client kept saying 'make it pop' but never knew what that meant, so I chased colors for three weeks. Do you think a project should cut off after a set number of revisions, or is it on me to manage expectations better from the start?

Are you charging per revision or flat rate for the project? Because that's the real question here. If you're doing flat rate, you basically told them revisions are free and they will take full advantage of that. I'd say you gotta set a hard cap like 3 revisions upfront and put it in writing. Otherwise you're just letting them chase perfection that doesn't exist.

Did you at least charge them for 47 of those revisions?
