Flat color block vs gradient, I picked wrong for 6 months

I run a small sign shop outside Cleveland and I kept fighting with my logo for half a year. Every mockup I did used a smooth gradient because it looked modern on my screen. But when I printed it on vinyl and slapped it on a delivery van, the gradient turned into a muddy mess. Finally I made a simple flat version with two solid colors and it popped way better from across the street. Lesson learned, gradients look good on phones but they die in real sunlight. Have any of you had a logo that looked great digitally but crumbled in print or on a vehicle?
