Can we talk about logos that use too many fonts?

I keep seeing small businesses with logos that mix three or four different fonts and it makes my eyes hurt. My cousin's dog grooming shop in Omaha has a sign with bold, script, and italic all in one name and it looks like a ransom note. Some people say more fonts make it look creative and fun, while others say stick to one or two max for professional work. What do you all think, is mixing fonts a big mistake or can it work if done right?
