Switched from spreadsheets to a shared Slack channel for job updates, huge difference

I used to track every project status in a spreadsheet that I updated at the end of the day. Problem was, my team of 6 would ping me all afternoon asking where things stood, and I'd have to dig through notes. Three months ago I set up a simple Slack channel where everyone posts a one-liner when they finish a task or hit a snag. Now I can see live status without asking, and the clients get faster answers too. Took about a week for the crew to build the habit, but the daily 4pm recap is gone completely. Has anyone else moved project tracking into a chat tool and found it works better than formal software?
