Rant: visited 3 agency offices and none had a real meeting agenda

Went to three local shops in Austin last month for vendor talks. Each one started 10 minutes late. Two had no printed agenda. One owner just talked about his dog for five minutes. I get being casual, but my time is billable too. Do you all actually use agendas or is that just a corporate thing? Has anyone else walked out of a meeting like this?

...and that's exactly why I started asking for the agenda before I even step foot in their office. If they can't send one over in a quick email, that tells me everything I need to know about how they run things. I've had too many meetings where I sat there for twenty minutes while someone figured out what they wanted to talk about, and my patience for that is basically zero now. The dog story thing, I get it, people want to be friendly, but there's a line between casual and wasting someone's time. I'll usually give them one shot, but if the second meeting is the same mess, I'm out and I tell them exactly why. I've actually had a few owners thank me for being straight about it, said nobody ever called them out before.

You ever notice how the whole "just be straight with me" thing applies to SO much more than meetings? Like, I've had contractors, mechanics, even my kid's school dance the same dance, and honestly, people just RESPECT someone who cuts through the fluff.
