One client's offhand remark about my invoice layout stuck with me for 2 years

Back in March 2021, a small retailer in Ohio said my invoice read like 'a ransom note with numbers'. I laughed it off, but then I noticed two other clients asked the same clarifying questions about line items that month. Has anyone else had a throwaway comment that actually exposed a real problem in how you bill?
