Just wasted $900 on a referral partner that ghosted me after month one

Ngl, I signed a 50/50 revenue share deal with a marketing consultant in Denver who promised a steady pipeline of small business leads. After I paid $900 for their intro package and a month of onboarding, they stopped returning my calls and I found out they had zero actual clients lined up. Has anyone else gotten burned by partnership deals that look good on paper but crash fast, and how do you vet these people now?
