I noticed a huge shift in my agency's sales after we dropped cold emailing

Three months ago we were sending 500 cold emails a week to marketing directors in Chicago and barely getting 2 replies. Last month we stopped cold emailing entirely and focused purely on LinkedIn outreach and referral follow-ups. Our reply rate jumped to 12% and we closed 3 new contracts worth $15k total. Has anyone else seen this kind of swing after dropping one channel?

500 emails a week was a spam number, not a sales number. You probably got blocked or flagged by enough inboxes that your domain reputation tanked, which is why switching to LinkedIn felt like magic. My buddy runs a local roofing company and saw the same thing when he stopped blasting Craigslist posts and started calling past clients directly.

Honestly though, the part people skip is that email lists decay way faster than anyone wants to admit. I know a guy who ran a local landscaping business and he'd buy these lists, blast them, then wonder why nobody opened anything. Meanwhile his old phone contacts from three years ago still pick up when he calls. That's the thing nobody talks about - the people who actually know you are worth ten times more than strangers who never asked to hear from you. It's not just about switching platforms, it's about who you're actually talking to.
