I finally told a client no on a scope creep request last Wednesday

She wanted me to add three extra social media campaigns for free on top of the retainer we already agreed on, right in the middle of a call about Q4 strategy. Has anyone else had to draw that line and worry about losing the account over it?

Ngl people try to get extra work for free all the time now, acting like your time doesn't matter. It's not just clients either, I see it with friends asking for favors and expecting total dedication without paying for it. Drawing that line is never easy but letting them walk over you makes it worse in the long run.

My cousin Tommy asked me to help him paint his entire garage last summer. Said he'd buy me a six pack and we'd knock it out in an afternoon. Three weekends later, I'm still cutting in around his workbench and he's out of beer by noon both days. Never paid me a cent, just kept saying he'd get me back next time. Haven't heard from him since September though, so I guess that was the price of saying yes.
