Client told me my proposals were too 'salesy' so I dialed it back
I had a potential client in Cleveland last month read my 5-page proposal out loud and go 'this sounds like a used car commercial.' I cut the buzzwords and just listed what I'd do and the price, and he signed the next day. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you totally change your pitch format?

Whoa wait, a used car commercial?? That's brutal! I would've been mortified if a client read my proposal out loud like that. But honestly, props to you for actually listening and changing it up instead of getting defensive. A lot of people would've just doubled down on the fluff. Sounds like dumbing it down and being straight with them was the right move though, Cleveland guy knew what he wanted.
