Brown noise went from my secret to everyone's sleep hack

I found brown noise helped me fall asleep last year. Now, I see it mentioned all the time in sleep groups and videos. It's like a quiet revolution for rest. Have you jumped on this trend? What other sounds help you sleep?

Calling it a "quiet revolution" feels like a stretch. That stuff is just repackaged static. I tried brown noise and it did nothing. My old fan blowing in the background works better than any app track. For me, real sounds beat fake ones every time, like heavy rain on a roof or a low rumble of a car engine.

Totally agree, @casey787! Those noise apps never did anything for me either. I always go back to my box fan or actual rain sounds.

What is it about real sounds that just works better? A fan has that specific motor whirr, and rain on a roof has those random, soft impacts. The apps feel too smooth, too even. I'll take the weird rattle of an old fridge or the wind through some trees over a perfect loop. Even a distant highway has a texture that fake brown noise can't copy.
