The constant battle to keep my cat from scratching the couch has me exhausted
I've put scratching posts right next to it, stuck double-sided tape, and even tried clicker training. She just looks at me and does it anyway when I'm not in the room. I'm spending so much time on this that I'm neglecting other parts of her training. It feels like I'm failing as a pet owner sometimes.

My buddy's dog chewed up three couch cushions before they just gave up and bought cheap covers. It's exactly what @ericjackson said about picking battles before you lose your mind lol.

Does it ever feel like we're all just managing chaos in our own homes? Your cat scratching the couch is like my neighbor's dog barking all night or kids drawing on walls. We set up rules and tools, but deep down, nature or habit just pushes back. It's exhausting because it's a silent, ongoing fight that nobody sees. I guess the trick is picking which battles matter before you burn out.

Man, I totally get this now. I used to fight every little mess and think I could control everything, like trying to stop my cat from ever jumping on the kitchen counter. After a while, you just see it's a losing fight. I've shifted to letting the small stuff go, like a junk drawer that's always a mess, so I have energy for the things that really bother me. It's exactly what @the_tyler's friend did with the couch cushions, and honestly, that's the only way to stay sane. You just can't win against all of it.
