Helping my dad sort his garage taught me a simple labeling method
I spent last weekend at my dad's house helping him clean his garage. He had boxes of stuff from years ago all mixed up. We decided to label everything with colored tape for different categories. Now when he needs something, he can find it right away. I started using the same system in my own garage this week. It's made a huge difference already. My wife even commented on how much neater it looks.

That system sounds like more work than it's worth honestly. All that colored tape just becomes its own kind of clutter after a while. What happens when the tape peels off or the colors fade in a few years? Then you're left with a sticky mess and a confusing system. It also assumes everyone who needs to find something knows the color code, which just isn't realistic. Feels like you're organizing the organization instead of just getting rid of stuff you don't need.

Ugh exactly. It's like building a sandcastle right before high tide - all that work for something that'll fall apart as soon as you need to change a category or a roll of tape runs out. You end up spending more time keeping the system perfect than actually finding what you need. Honestly, the best organization system is just owning less junk so you don't need a color-coded map to find your spare batteries.

Right? I read this thing about how the perfect system is just a pile you can dig through in under a minute.
