Showerthought: A free app turned my headphone reviews around

Last month, I was testing these wireless earbuds and my notes on sound were all over the place. Turns out, my phone's own settings were changing the audio without me knowing. I found this free app called Audio Check that plays simple test tones. Now I run it before each review to hear the raw sound. It lets me catch things like bass boost or treble cuts right away. My write-ups are way more reliable now, which is kinda cool. Just a small change but it really helped.

Honestly I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this, like how much difference could a simple tone test really make. But after reading this I tried that same app last week and wow, my old bluetooth speakers had a weird mid-range bump I never noticed before. It's wild how much hidden processing is going on that we just accept as normal sound. This is a legit pro tip for anyone who cares about what they're actually hearing.

Have you ever noticed how this happens with screens too? After reading @river183's take, I checked my phone's display and the colors were SO boosted it looked fake. It's the same idea of hidden processing making things 'pop' but losing accuracy. We just accept these defaults without realizing how much they change the REAL experience.
