My old mentor used to hand mix every shellac batch from memory.

Back when I started, my grandpa would sit with me for hours showing how to rub out a finish. He knew exactly how much denatured alcohol to add by the sound it made. Now, I mostly get texts with pictures asking for quick fixes. It feels like the personal touch is fading, even though the work is still there.

Ever notice how a quick text fix teaches the steps, but never the feel of the work? It’s like we’re trading that deep know-how for fast answers now.

Following a guide to fix a leaky faucet once left my whole kitchen floor wet because the text didn't mention how much force the pipe could take. Andrew's right, you miss the gut feeling of how things should move. It's like when someone reads about flossing but has no sense for the gentle pressure needed. We get the steps down but lose the touch.

Honestly, that gut feel is what separates a real fix from just following a list.
