Shoutout to freelancers with chatty neighbors
I work from my home office and the neighbor loves to stop by for a chat. Some folks say to be friendly and take breaks, but I worry about losing focus on my projects. How do you balance being social with getting your work done?

Ugh, tiny distractions like that slowly kill my whole day’s momentum.

Wait, it's not even about losing momentum though. It's that your focus gets broken into smaller and smaller pieces until none of it is any good. A text notification doesn't just pause you, it makes the next ten minutes of thought shallower. Your brain stays stuck on that open tab, that unanswered email, and the work just gets flimsy.

Notice how modern life is basically built out of these tiny interruptions. Every ping and notification is designed to pull your attention just a little bit. It feels like you're constantly having to restart your brain, and that restart cost adds up to a whole day of lost focus. The real fight isn't against one distraction, it's against the entire system set up to create them.
