A client in Dallas tried to get me to sign a contract that basically gave away all my rights

We were finalizing a big website project, about $8,000 worth of work, and he sent over his 'standard' agreement. I read it and one line said 'all work product, including drafts and concepts, becomes the sole property of the client upon payment.' That meant he'd own even my unused ideas and early sketches forever. I pushed back and he got mad, saying 'everyone else just signs it.' I had to walk away from the deal, which hurt, but it was the right call. Has anyone else had a client try to sneak in a clause like that?

My cousin lost his logo ideas to a similar clause years back.

Yeah, that "everyone else just signs it" line is such a red flag. Good on you for walking away, that clause is a total deal breaker.
