Unpopular opinion: I used to think those cheap ceramic pouring cups were fine for everything.

Had a big pour for a municipal grate last Thursday, about 800 pounds of gray iron. Used my usual bargain bin cup from the supply truck. Thing cracked right down the side halfway through the pour, lost maybe 200 pounds of metal onto the floor. Total mess, ruined the mold. My foreman just shook his head and said 'you get what you pay for, kid.' Ordered a proper silicon carbide cup that night. Anyone have a brand they trust for heavy duty work that won't let go?

That sounds like a brutal way to learn that lesson. Losing 200 pounds of iron and a mold is a real kick in the teeth. Our shop switched to Morgan Molten Metal cups after a similar scare, and they've held up for years under heavy pours. What size are you looking for?

Yeah, that's a rough one. Can't imagine the cleanup.

Feel for you on that loss, it's a real gut punch. Equipment failure at that scale is never just about the metal. Hope the switch works out as well for you as it did for them.
