Vent: My stubborn rule about font weights was holding back my designs

I used to stick to just one or two font weights in a project to keep it simple. But when I designed a website header, I tried light, regular, and semi-bold from the same font. It made the text layers clear and looked professional. Why did I avoid this for so long?

Call me skeptical, but is this that serious? Font weights are a basic tool, not a magic fix. Tbh, I've seen designs get messy from using too many styles. It's about balance, not just adding more weights for the sake of it.

Actually used to think the same way, that it was just extra clutter. Then I saw a project where one extra weight made everything click. Still needs balance though, you're right about that.

Oscarm24, your clutter comment reminds me of my own mess. I used to throw in every weight I could find, and it never helped. Guess I'm proof that too much of a good thing is just a lot of bad type.
