Unpopular opinion: I think people overuse Lobster for wedding invites

I was helping my cousin with her save-the-dates and she showed me three designs from different friends, all using Lobster with a thin script. It just feels like a default choice now, not a thoughtful pairing. What's a better bold display font to match with something elegant for formal events?

But isn't that the point of a classic? It's everywhere because it works. It's a friendly bold font that reads well at any size, and that's key for something like an invite. Pairing it with a thin script gives a nice balance without being hard to read. Maybe the issue isn't the font itself, but just wanting something less common for a formal feel. Have you looked at something like Playfair Display? It has that bold weight but feels a bit more like a traditional serif for a fancy event.

Works" doesn't mean it's the right fit... a classic can still feel lazy and overdone for a formal invite.

Playfair Display's a solid pick, @lucas972.
