I used to think mixing a serif with a script was a bad idea
Back when I was just starting out, I saw a design online for a wedding invite that paired a classic serif with a really loose script. I thought it looked messy and told my friend it wouldn't work. Then I got a project for a local coffee shop here in Austin and tried it out of desperation. The owner loved it and said it felt 'warm and personal'. Has anyone else had a font combo they were totally wrong about?

@evand65 totally right, my buddy used a serif+script for his BBQ shack and it Actually worked perfect.

My first freelance logo was for a bakery in my hometown. I was so sure pairing a heavy slab serif with a thin, spidery script would look like a mistake. The client insisted on seeing it, and it completely changed the vibe from corporate to handmade. I still use that combo for food brands now. It taught me to actually try things instead of just going by the rules I read online.
