Why do we keep using the slightly-bad tool just because we already own it? I see this with my kitchen gadgets and phone apps too. We'll put up with something that only half-works because switching feels like a whole thing, even when the fix is cheap and simple.

Actually, there's this idea called the sunk cost thing where we keep using stuff just because we've already put time or money into it. I heard it on a podcast once and it made so much sense for my closet full of barely-worn shoes. We stick with the half-broken tool because ditching it feels like admitting we wasted our cash, even when a new one is right there. It's like our brain gets stuck on what we've spent instead of what we need now. Kinda funny how our brains work against us sometimes.

Good point about sunk costs, but the real kicker is how we let past choices mess with future logic. It's not just wasted cash we're clinging to, it's the idea that maybe, just maybe, that tool will magically work better tomorrow. My garage is a museum of 'I'll fix it someday' projects that never happen. Our brains hate feeling dumb, so we double down on bad bets instead of cutting losses. Funny how a simple economic idea explains why my shelf is full of crap I never use.
