I finally told a client why I have mixed feelings about silk flowers

Back when I started, fresh flowers were the only option for events. These days, many people ask for artificial ones to save cash and keep them longer. It's a gray area for me because real flowers feel more special but can be wasteful. Like when a customer wanted all fake blooms for a funeral to avoid wilting. I wondered if it was right to suggest real flowers for a more heartfelt touch. Things have changed so much, with more focus on lasting arrangements. I guess I just miss the simple times when fresh was the norm.

Challenge that mix idea because it just hides the problem. You still waste real flowers that die, plus you keep fake ones that never belonged. Maybe keeping things separate is more honest about what each choice really means.

Actually had a client last year who felt stuck on this exact point. We ended up using a small vase of real blooms for the ceremony itself, which they could compost, and fuller fake arrangements for the reception decor that they now reuse at home. It felt like a clear split that honored both wants.

That bit about missing when fresh was the norm hits home. I've found suggesting a mix of real and fake can sometimes bridge that gap for clients who want the look but worry about waste.
