Hot take: The Atlanta flower show made me stop using floral foam for big pieces
I was at the Southeastern Flower Show in Atlanta last year and saw a whole display fall apart because the foam gave out. The designer said she'd used three blocks of it, but the weight of the lilies and branches was just too much. Now I only use chicken wire and moss for anything over 18 inches tall, but some florists I know say foam is still faster for big jobs. What's your go-to method for tall arrangements that need to last?

My Atlanta experience proved chicken wire and moss hold heavy blooms better long term.

Honestly I still use floral foam for tall pieces all the time. You have to pack it in tight and really secure it to the container. That designer might not have used enough support or soaked the foam right. Chicken wire is a pain for me and takes twice as long. A good foam cage setup has never failed me, even with heavy branches.
