That $300 self-healing cutting mat was a total waste for me
Honestly, I bought the big 36x24 one for sewing patterns and it's got permanent knife marks after just 3 months. Anyone else find the cheaper 15 dollar ones hold up better?

Ain't that always the way with the expensive stuff though?

Yeah, "ain't that always the way" really sums it up. I was reading this article about boutique workout gear last week, and the writer pointed out how the high-end stuff often has the most fragile materials. Like, they use these super lightweight fabrics that tear if you sneeze on them. It's the same with expensive headphones, the expensive ones are made of plastic that cracks if you drop them once. Meanwhile, my $20 earbuds from the drugstore have been through the washing machine and still work fine.

It's like the world runs on this weird rule where paying more gets you something that needs to be handled with kid gloves. Take kitchen knives, the fancy ones chip if you look at them wrong, but a $10 knife from the grocery store will cut through a frozen pizza box no problem. I swear by my cheap raincoat, had it for six years, while my friend's designer one developed a hole in the first season. There's something about budget stuff that's built for the real world, not for sitting pretty on a shelf.
