Tbh, a client's comment about my fabric choice made me rethink everything

I made a linen blazer for a client in Austin last month, and she said it looked 'more like a wrinkled beach towel than a tailored piece.' Honestly, that hurt, but she was right. I switched to a wool-cotton blend for structure and started pre-washing all my natural fabrics twice before cutting. Has anyone else had a harsh critique that actually improved their process?

I read an interview with a tailor in Savannah who said linen needs a 'hard hand' to work. He soaks it in a heavy starch solution before he even touches the iron, which locks in some crispness. Your double pre-wash is smart for shrinkage, but maybe that extra step of stiffening it up first could help too. It's a fussy fabric that fights you the whole way.

Yeah, I started doing a starch soak with my linen shirts and it made a huge difference. Way easier to get those sharp creases without fighting the fabric the whole time.

Wow, I used to think linen was always a good choice.
