Serious question, did anyone think the whole 'gorpcore' thing would last?

I saw it start on hiking trails and thought it was just for people who couldn't be bothered to change after a walk. Then I saw a fleece vest over a dress at a coffee shop in Denver last fall. That's when it clicked. It's not about the gear, it's about mixing utility with normal clothes in a way that looks easy. I tried it myself with some old cargo pants and a nice knit top, and it just worked. The pockets are actually useful, and the fabric is tough. I was wrong to write it off as just a fad. What's another outdoor piece that works well in a normal outfit?

You're right about the mix making it work. I used to think it was just sloppy, but seeing someone like river_wright mention a rain shell over a t-shirt made me try my old hiking boots with regular jeans. They're broken in and comfortable, and they actually look good with a simple sweater. It's that contrast between tough gear and soft clothes that really clicks for me now.

Totally agree, it's the mix that makes it work. I've been wearing my old rain shell over everything lately, even just a t-shirt and jeans. It's light enough that you don't get too hot, and it looks way more put together than a regular jacket when you're just running errands lol.
