My friend's mom in Seattle totally changed how I see pockets
I was helping her carry groceries and she said, 'Every dress I own needs a pocket big enough for my phone and keys... it's a design failure if it doesn't.' That was 3 months ago, and now I sketch every skirt or dress with at least one real pocket. Has anyone else had a simple comment completely shift their design approach?

Pockets are a basic human right, not a design feature.

My early designs treated pockets as just decoration, which seems silly now. Hearing a friend's mom call it a design failure really stuck with me. She was totally right, it's about function for the person wearing it. I had to unlearn that fashion-first mindset. Now I see a pocket as a basic need, like a zipper or a hem.
