I tried making a dress from old bedsheets and it actually worked
I cut up some floral sheets I found at a thrift store in Portland, thinking it would just be a practice run. The fabric was way stiffer than I expected, so I ended up with this cool, structured mini dress instead of the flowy one I pictured. Has anyone else had a fabric totally change their design like that?

That stiffness turning it into a structured mini sounds like a happy accident. Have you thought about trying it with a stiffer thrifted curtain next?

Oh man, I gotta disagree a bit here. Stiff curtain fabric is a total gamble and usually ends up looking like a costume or some weird 80s prom reject. The softness is what makes it wearable, yknow? Like yeah it's annoying to work with but the drape is way more flattering than something that stands on its own. I'd rather fight with floppy fabric and get a piece I actually want to wear than force a curtain into a dress that fights back.

Honestly, the fabric always wins in the end. It's like a bossy co-designer you didn't ask for. At least yours gave you a decent mini dress and not a potato sack.
