Hot take: stiff denim is actually better than stretch for everyday wear

I tried switching to 100% cotton jeans after 5 years of only wearing 2% stretch denim. For the first two weeks my legs felt like cardboard tubes and I couldn't bend over without a fight. But after a solid month of breaking them in, they actually hold their shape way better and don't sag at the knees by lunch time. I picked up a pair from a little shop in Portland that does raw denim and it was $85, same as a pair of stretch ones at the mall. Anyone else find that stretch denim just wears out faster and loses its fit after a few washes?

The exact same thing happened to me man. I bought a pair of raw denim from a shop in Austin called Faded Dreams about 6 months ago. Those first three weeks were brutal, I could barely sit down in my car without feeling like I was in a straitjacket. I almost gave up and tossed them in the donation pile. But once they finally softened up around the knees and waist, man they just became my favorite pants. My stretch jeans from the mall always looked baggy by noon and I hated that wrinkled saggy look around the ankles. Now I wear these stiff ones five days a week and they still look sharp even after a full day of sitting at my desk. I totally get what you mean about the fit holding up way better after a few washes.
