Had to choose between a draped neckline or a structured collar for a cocktail dress design. Went with the drape, but the muslin is a mess.

Is it just me or is the mess part of the process? I find draping way more forgiving than a collar that has to be perfect.

Drapes are so much harder than they look. I tried making a simple draped top last year and the fabric just would not cooperate. It bunched up in all the wrong places and looked sloppy. You have to get the weight and the hang just perfect. A structured collar is way more predictable to sew. I hope you can get the muslin to work out.

What kind of fabric did you use for that draped top? Some just fight you no matter what.
