Serious question, has anyone else had a client swear by a certain hoof oil?
A client in Lexington kept telling me this one brand of hoof oil made her horse's feet grow faster. I was pretty sure it was just a waste of money, but she was so sure. After a year of her using it, I had to admit the growth rate on that horse was way better than her others. Now I'm wondering if there's something to it. What other products have you guys tried that actually worked when you thought they wouldn't?

Check the ingredients list for biotin or zinc, because sometimes the basic supplements in those oils get overlooked. I mean, it could just be that one horse had better genetics or feed, but idk, maybe the oil helped. Honestly, if it works for that horse, just roll with it.

Okay but what if the secret ingredient is just the owner's stubborn belief? I spent a whole season telling my guy his favorite liniment was fancy water, then pulled a muscle and used it myself. I hate to admit it worked a little too well. Sometimes the stuff we make fun of ends up proving us wrong in the most annoying way possible.

juliadavis has a point about the ingredients. But maybe the oil itself is the key, not what's in it. A really good sealant could lock in the hoof's natural moisture better than anything else. That perfect moisture balance is what actually makes growth take off. So the brand might just have a better formula for holding water in.
