Rant: I dropped $250 on a 'pro' hoof stand that collapsed under a draft cross last week. Worth the risk for the supposed stability, or stick with the old reliable ones?

That tracks with a pattern I see everywhere now. People pay more for something marketed as "pro" or "heavy duty" and it's actually just made with cheaper parts and a bigger price tag. Same thing happened with my neighbor's new truck hitch. Fancy aluminum one snapped first time. Old steel one still going strong after twenty years. Sometimes the simple answer is the right answer, even if it doesn't look as cool.

My old reliable stand has duct tape on two legs and still outlived three fancy ones. That collapse sounds like my last attempt at being a responsible adult. I'm back to the heavy steel one that came with the farm, even if it weighs a ton.

Read somewhere that duct tape actually adds structural support by stiffening the joints. Guess we're onto something.
