Hot take: I keep seeing folks at shows skip the hoof testers on a horse that's just 'off' and go straight to corrective shoeing.

Last month at the county fair, I watched a farrier put a wedge pad on a mare without even a basic pressure check, and the owner called me two days later because the horse was still lame, which tells me we're sometimes treating the symptom before confirming the cause.

My buddy's horse got a pad for no real reason last year.

Ugh, my old farrier always said a shoe is a tool, not a guess.

Wait, your farrier said that?
