Appreciation post: I switched from a standard rasp to a diamond-coated one for finishing work about six months ago, and the difference in my final bevels is night and day.

Used to think rasps were all pretty much the same. Picked up a cheap set years ago and figured that was good enough. Finally grabbed a diamond one after fighting with my stainless steel bevels last month. Night and day difference with how clean the finish comes out now. Kicking myself for all those rough edges I left behind.

That's the kind of upgrade that makes you wonder why you waited so long. It happens with all kinds of tools, not just shop stuff. You get used to the cheap version that sort of works, so you put up with the extra effort and worse results. Then you finally try the good one and it just clicks. The job gets easier and the finish is cleaner. Makes you look back at all the time wasted with the old way.

Yeah, @phoenix845, that's so true... what's the one thing you upgraded that made you feel the dumbest for not doing it sooner?
