The day my perfectly planned stone walkway turned into a mud pit

I was laying a flagstone path in my backyard in Portland, spent two days getting the base just right. The forecast said 20% chance of rain, so I figured I was safe. An hour after I finished setting the last stone, a downpour hit that wasn't on any radar. The whole thing just sank, like 3 inches in some spots, because the gravel base washed out. I stood there watching my weekend's work turn into a muddy river. Has anyone else had a weather forecast completely ruin an outdoor project like that? What do you do to really protect fresh work?

Oh man, that's brutal. Portland weather is a liar sometimes. At least you got a free mud bath out of the deal.

Tell me about it. I got caught in that same downpour without a jacket. My shoes are still drying out by the door. Classic Portland fake-out.

Portland weather is a liar" is so true lol. I started keeping a small umbrella in my car after the third time I fell for the sunny morning trap. Also got one of those packable rain jackets that folds into its own pocket. Total game changer, I just toss it in my bag every day now. The mud bath comment got me though, been there way too many times walking through the park after a surprise shower. Hope your shoes dry out faster than mine did, I was walking around with squishy sneakers for like a week.
