Showerthought: I used to think matching your siding and trim color was the safe choice

For years, I'd tell clients a uniform look was 'classic' and wouldn't date itself. But after walking my dog through the historic district here in Springfield for the past six months, I really looked at the houses that stood out. The ones that feel 'right' almost always have trim that's a shade or two lighter or darker than the siding, not the same. It adds depth and makes the architecture pop, instead of looking like a flat box. My own house is proof, I repainted the trim a cream against our gray siding last fall and it completely changed the curb appeal. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I just overthinking paint chips?

You're right about trim adding depth, I always go a shade lighter for a clean look.

Yeah, a shade lighter keeps it from feeling too heavy in there.
