Serious question, what's the deal with painting a dark house a light color?
My 1920s bungalow in Portland was this deep, gloomy brown, and after my neighbor joked it looked like a 'chocolate bar that melted in the rain', I finally caved and painted it a light sage green. The difference in how big and bright it looks now is honestly wild. Has anyone else made a switch like this and been surprised by the result?

Same here, @lucas159. Light gray made my old place feel brand new.

My old house in Seattle was that same dark brown, and I always heard it was to hide soot from coal furnaces back in the day. Going with a light color makes a huge difference, especially with our cloudy weather. It feels less like a cave now. I just wish I had done it sooner.

That makes total sense, and my own place felt so much bigger after a fresh coat of light paint too.
