My neighbor insisted I keep the original brick on my 1950s ranch
I was ready to cover it with siding, but he said it would kill the character. Now, after a good cleaning, I get compliments every week. Anyone else glad they ignored their first instinct on a facade?

That neighbor just saved you from a huge mistake. I see so many old ranches around here smothered in cheap vinyl siding and it always looks sad. The original brick on those houses has a color and texture you can't buy anymore. Good on you for listening, the curb appeal must be through the roof now.

What about the long term cost though? Siding needs to be replaced every few decades, but that brick is basically forever with just a little upkeep. You probably saved a ton of future hassle and cash.
