I used to think a plain white house was boring, but a neighbor changed my mind

A guy down the street, Mike, painted his whole house a soft gray with bright white trim. I saw it last Tuesday and it looked so clean and sharp. He told me he picked the gray because it hides dirt better than white and makes the green from his plants pop. I always thought adding color was too much work, but his place looks great without being loud. Has anyone else picked a color they were unsure about and been happy with it?

Was it a big leap for you to even think about color? I get that, I was the same way for years. We went with a really dark blue on our last place and I was so nervous the whole time they were painting. But it ended up looking amazing, way more character than just another white box. It feels good to take a small risk and have it work out like your neighbor's gray did.

Wait, you went with a DARK blue? @blair_fox7 that is a huge swing. I would have been a nervous wreck watching that go on the walls. I remember my friend did a dark charcoal in her dining room and for the first two days it just looked like a gloomy cave. But then she put the furniture back and added a bright rug, and it totally came together. It's wild how the right room can handle a deep color like that.

Yeah, we did a deep green in our living room and I had the same worry. It just needed the right light and some wood tones to warm it up.
