I almost lost a whole side of my house because I didn't check the flashing around the new window.

I installed a replacement window myself about 18 months ago and just sealed the trim with caulk. Last week during a heavy rain in Tampa, I saw water dripping down the interior wall. When I pulled the siding back, the wood behind it was soft and starting to rot because water got behind the seal. Now I have to replace a section of sheathing and properly install metal flashing tape before the new trim goes on. Has anyone else had a hidden leak from a window install that took months to show up?

Man, I used to think caulk was enough too until a similar thing happened to me.

Ugh, I feel that. Honestly, you gotta get the proper waterproof sealant for wet areas, not just any caulk. I learned the hard way after my own shower disaster. Took me a whole weekend to rip out the old mess and redo it right. It's a pain but it saves you from way bigger problems later.
