Almost installed the wrong siding color - this saved me

I had a whole house re-side in Portland last month and went with a dark green sample from the store, but the actual batch looked almost black in sunlight. After 3 test patches on the north wall I swapped to a lighter sage before the crew started. Anyone else run into lighting tricking you on a big exterior finish decision?

Haven't we all been burned by store lighting making a color look totally different than it does outside? I picked out a "charcoal" for my own house once that turned out to be straight-up purple in the afternoon sun, had to repaint the whole thing. So yeah, you definitely got lucky catching that before the crew went all-in.

Yeah I hear you @ray210 but store lighting gets way too much blame here. Colors shift with natural light too depending on the time of day or which side of the house you're on. Half the people I know picked a gray that turned blue at sunset and acted like it was the paint aisle's fault.
